I’m so embarrassed at the amount of weight I’ve gained in the 6 months since I’ve been single. I eat when I’m bored. I eat when I’m sad and lonely. I eat while I watch TV. I sleep a lot. We have no children to keep me busy and my friends all have lives and relationships of their own. I feel no motivation to work out as much as I want to. When I have spare time, I think I should work out but I find every excuse not to.

Have you gone to counseling? It sounds like you are depressed, which is natural. It’s hard to start anything in this state. Please get some help.

Start in really small ways. Just a short walk, but make sure you go everyday. There are all kinds of apps or online ways to track your food and activity. It helps to have something to record at meal times – just writing it down makes you think about eating it. Also have structure to meal times by eating at set periods, certain portions, etc. Setting up a system will help you lots. Good luck!
